Today is the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attack in 2001, and I wanted to do a brief post to offer a listening suggestion: One of my favorite pieces by American composer John Adams, “On the Transmigration of Souls.”
John Adams is a relatively well-known modern composer, but let’s face it, if we are lucky that means 1 out of 300 Americans would recognize the name. And although it won the Pulitzer Prize for music in 2003, I am sure there are many people who don’t know it.
I’ve posted a video for it, but it should be available on just about any streaming service. Cleveland’s classical music station, WCLV, which streams on the Internet, has promised to play it today during the hour that begins at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time today.
Thank you for sharing this. I wonder how many Americans surveyed would respond that they think John Adams makes a beer.
